Chinese fans of the “chicken and beer” dish made popular by Korean drama My Love From Another Star will soon be able to eat from genuine Korean restaurants!

Korean fried chicken restaurant Chicken Couple (炸雞情侶) held a press conference in Shanghai last month to announce their new celebrity spokespeople. A commercial starring Chinese-Korean idol group TimeZ and Korean group Swing Girls was released earlier this week to help promote their new restaurants.

A company representative from Chicken Couple explained that the two groups were chosen for their image as youthful and high energy idol groups. He hoped that these groups’ popularity will help raise brand awareness for his company within the younger demographic.

In the media scrum after the press conference, TimeZ was asked about their thoughts towards members in popular Chinese-Korean male idol groups departing for their own individual solo careers. The group reassured fans by saying that they will never disband.

As for Korean girl group Swing Girls, although they are relatively unknown, they seemed to have fans attending the press conference. They were unable to speak Mandarin, but they all hoped for further opportunities to work in China, and were particularly happy about collaborating with TimeZ.

TimeZ group leader Kong Shuhang (also known as Kee) spoke well of their experience filming the commercial with Swing Girls. “My Korean isn’t very good, so I used English to converse with them. At first, I didn’t know how we would be able to communicate, so I felt a little awkward, but after meeting them, I discovered that not only were they very pretty, but they were also very nice in person.”

Originally debuted in 2012, TimeZ is a joint collaboration between Beijing agency SuperJet Entertainment and Korean company CJ E&M. Consisting of six members – Chinese members Kee, Tenni (Tian Yichen), Liu Guanxi, and June (Mao Ruoyi); Korean members Harry (Lee Hyungjoo) and Taku (Kim Seonghwan) – they have released one single and one mini-album so far.

TimeZ revealed to Chinese media last month that their next album release will happen early 2015. “The style (of the new album) will be more dynamic and more manly.”

Videos of the new Chinese Chicken Couple commercial as well as videos of the press conference have been embedded below.

We’re looking forward to hearing more about TimeZ’s new album!
